Volunteering Opportunity: Conlig Garden Nursery Gardener

Description

Conlig Day Services has its own garden nursery where attendees grow and sell flowers and plants to the general public.

Opening hours 9.30am to around 3.00pm (Monday – Friday) The role is flexible across the opening hours.

  • Working alongside staff and members/attendees (adults with a learning disability and some mental ill-health)
  • Interacting with the public
  • Creating hanging baskets, window boxes, Xmas wreaths etc.
  • Nurturing and potting on plants ready for sale
  • Need, at least a basic understanding of gardening
  • Garden design
  • Maintaining beds & borders
  • Planting, weeding and digging

A registered Charity, Praxis Care was created in 1981 to support people with mental health issues at risk of exclusion in their community, by providing Accommodation and Befriending Services. Over the years, Praxis Care has developed the range of accommodation and support services and expanded the service users groups to include people with learning disabilities, autism and dementia. Praxis Care is committed to helping those at risk of exclusion because of complexity of need. Our approach is to help the person enhance their self-management skills and learn more effective ways of communication. We support over 1,500 adults and children in over 80 different locations across Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle Of Man and England.

  • Planting a variety of shrubs and plants
  • General gardening
  • Building raised beds
  • Interacting with the public
