Member Benefits

Partnership & Collaboration

The key aspect of NIEL membership is the facility for co–ordinated action, a shared agenda and strong voice for environmental protection. Collaborative working amongst NGOs and a recognised representative point of contact and consultation are increasingly looked for by government. NIEL provides this for the environmental NGO sector.

NIEL can also help smaller organisations to “punch above their weight”. By working in partnership with a wider network they can influence and produce material they may not be able to do alone. By working together, member organisations, regardless of their size can be more effective.

A major strength of the NIEL network is its size and influence and we welcome new members to increase the breadth and strength of the environmental voice.

Policy & Consultation

Ensuring that the environment is given due recognition in the development of government policy is a major aspect of NIEL’s work. Member’s views are sought on NIEL submissions to significant environmental policies, strategies, legislation and other proposals.

NIEL influences policy in various ways:

  • Direct liaison with Government Departments, Agencies, the Assembly & Political Representatives
  • Working Groups & Task Forces
  • Seminars, Conferences, Publications
