The Conservation Volunteers – Volunteer Officer Derry~Londonderry (Brooke Park)

Description

The Conservation Volunteers offer a range of Volunteer Officer positions which allow volunteers to take on more complex roles, often leading volunteers or managing local projects. Volunteer Officer roles provide great experience for anybody who is seeking a career in the environmental sector.

A ‘Volunteer Officer’ is a volunteer who gives a specific amount of time to TCV, usually a minimum of 6 months, but some people continue for years. It’s a fantastic way to give your time, energy and passion to make a real difference to your community and the environment.

Roles can vary from practical conservation, environmental education or community development. Training is provided through on the job support and also online learning and short courses.

Volunteer Officers are provided with outdoor clothing including TCV branding, and some have office space and access to other resources. A local TCV Officer or Manager provides ongoing direction and support. TCV provides expenses for travel and other costs.

Volunteer Officer roles often involve work with vulnerable people and his could be working with children or with adults at risk. As a result some VO’s will be considered to be in a ‘position of trust’ and will require a criminal record check (AccessNI) at the basic or enhanced level.

Training

Volunteer Officers are required to complete a first aid course and do TCV’s online learning programme which covers subjects including Health & Safety and safeguarding. Other training will be determined by the role the Volunteer Officer is undertaking and may include one-day courses or job shadowing.

It will also be possible to attend talks on various topics like conservation, composting, bird and bats etc from our Project Officers who regularly deliver sessions on the above and more. This opportunity will allow for workplace learning and development that typical volunteering roles do not.

Expenses

TCV aims to cover the cost of Volunteer Officers travel and any direct expenses. We will also provide you with suitable outdoor clothing.
