Sustainable NI is seeking a Chair and Board Members to help the organisation deliver its mission to promote and support sustainable development in Northern Ireland. This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership, influence policy, and make a lasting environmental and social impact. We welcome applicants from a wide range of professional backgrounds — within or outside the sustainability sector — who share our passion for creating a fairer, greener future.

About the Roles

Our Board plays a vital leadership role, ensuring we deliver on our ambitious strategic plan and maintain the highest standards of governance, transparency, and impact.

We are now recruiting for:

Chair – providing strategic oversight to the Board, leading inclusive and effective governance, and working closely with the Executive Director to guide the organisation’s mission.

Board Members – bringing a diverse mix of skills, experience, and insights to inform strategic decisions, challenge constructively, and act as ambassadors for Sustainable NI.

We are particularly interested in individuals with:

• Proven senior leadership experience (Executive or Non-Executive) and strategic thinking skills
• The ability to collaborate, challenge constructively, and make evidence-based decisions
• A commitment to environmental and social impact

These are voluntary roles requiring around 10 days per year. Out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. Board meetings are held quarterly, with a mix of in-person and virtual attendance.
