Community Maintenance Day and Currach Tour – Connecting Through Craft

Category: Skills & Training

Date: 29th March 2026

Time: 12:00pm – 2:00pm

Location: Queen’s Quay Compound, Queen’s Quay, Belfast

Ever wondered how Belfast’s traditional currachs are cared for? Here’s your chance to find out — come meet Mamach Mór, Joe, and Fionnuala, and get involved! Join us at Queens Quay for a fun, hands-on community day where you’ll learn to clean, sand, oil, paint and carry out small repairs on these beautiful Irish skin boats.

This isn’t just maintenance — it’s a celebration of craft, heritage, and community. Meet people, share stories, and discover how these boats connect us to our waterways and history. Whether you stay the full two hours or just drop in for a cuppa and a look around, there’s something for everyone. Old clothes and curiosity are all you need!

Come prepared for a bit of mess, plenty of fun, and the chance to experience Belfast’s living maritime heritage up close. Tea and refreshments are included, and we’ll also explain how you can get involved and join us on the water for the rowing season.

Parental supervision required for children.
