CAFRE/Teagasc Hill Farm Open Day

On Wednesday 3rd September, CAFRE and Teagasc are hosting a joint Hill Farm Open Day at the CAFRE Hill Farm Centre, Glenwherry, Ballymena, Co. Antrim. Tour groups will depart every 30 minutes beginning at 10.00am, with the last tour leaving at 4.00pm.

NIEL’s Sustainable Agriculture Policy Working Group will have 5 units at the event representing member organisations.

Throughout the tour, visitors will hear from CAFRE and Teagasc staff alongside environmental and research experts about the ongoing work at the CAFRE Hill Farm. Visitors will hear about how the profitable and sustainable sheep and cattle enterprises are helping to manage the habitat to provide suitable areas for the wide range of bird and mammal species to nest, rest or forage within. Visitors will also hear about the current peatland carbon emission research and how peatland restoration is benefitting the carbon balance but also the habitat.

Farmers and those working in the industry are now able to book onto a timed slot to take a 3 ½ hour tour of the hill farm. Using the registration link, select the time that you would like to begin the Hill Farm tour. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your chosen time slot. There will be a a range of organisations exhibiting displays while you wait for the tour to begin.
