Built to Last: Lecture 1 – The Joy of Dereliction and the Joy in Restoration

The Joy of Dereliction by Marcus Patton – Marcus Patton will outline the work of Hearth, explaining why the buildings he cites in the book ‘Built to Last’ fell into disuse and what was involved in bringing them back to life. Included in his talk will be the story of the restoration of Portrush Town Hall, seen in the illustration above, painted by Marcus in 2000.

The Joy in Restoration By Dawson Stelfox – Conservation architect Dawson Stelfox tells of the challenges and rewards in helping owners bring buildings at risk back to life. He will discuss Hanna’s Close, St. Patrick’s School and Christ Church, showing how historic buildings can be successfully adapted for new uses whilst retaining their historic character.

Tickets are available through Eventbrite via the UAHS website and should be purchased in advance.

  • Wine/Soft Drinks (included in ticket price) will be served from 6.30 pm.

Lecture to start promptly at 7 pm.
