RSPB NI – Website Designer and Administrator: Specialist/Expert Volunteer for LIFE Raft

We are looking for volunteers with WordPress website design skills to join LIFE Raft and help improve the website to better reflect the needs of the project and the Rathlin community.

This work will involve working with the Communications Manager and the rest of the team to create an intuitive, dynamic structure to the website. The website is the shop window to Rathlin for tourists and other visitors to the island, but it is also designed to be a useful space for the Rathlin community. This role will help to identify areas for improvement, create new, dynamic content, and work with the Rathlin community ensure that the website reflects their needs. This volunteer role will work alongside a volunteer web copywriter to make the website more dynamic, informative, and user-friendly.

LIFE Raft is a ground-breaking project to protect Northern Ireland’s most important seabird colony from invasive non-native species. The seabirds are a major tourism draw to the island with over 20,000 visitors travelling to the seabird centre each year, and the website represents a big opportunity to promote LIFE Raft, Rathlin businesses, and Rathlin’s culture and way of life.

Full training and support will be provided depending on which team you are based with and what tasks you are undertaking but in general, we are looking for people with the following skills and experience:

  • WordPress design and website creation
  • IT skills, creating documents, managing spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with different audiences, internal and external to the RSPB.
  • Organisational skills.

This is a highly rewarding role and offers a chance to make a positive impact. You will be making a genuine contribution to nature conservation, so if that is your motivation, you’ll find satisfaction in this role. This role provides an excellent opportunity to donate your time and skills to have real impact on our work. You will learn all about how the RSPB works and gain experience working for an environmental charity. We like to think we’re a friendly and welcoming team, so you’ll have the opportunity to make new friends too.
