In June 2022 Northern Ireland finally had a Climate Act to call its own.
But what really happened behind the scenes before the unprecedented two bill race with Climate Change (No 2) Bill gaining Royal Assent?
This is the story of how Northern Ireland’s climate change law started with a conversation in a café. It’s the story of how civil society stepped in to write it when the Minister refused. It’s about how they gained political support to get a climate Act and forced Northern Ireland to stop being a climate laggard.
