Environmental education

Bringing about a long–term change in society’s attitude to the environment must start with young people. NIEL is committed to environmental education at all levels, through ESDF and the support of the work of member organisations.

Environmental education

Changing the attitude of society to the environment is crucial to the long term prosperity of Northern Ireland – the environment is the valuable resource on which our economy is based. Sustained environmental education at various levels (from school to general public) is needed to do this, and NIEL promote this through work with, for example, ESDF and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, and also seek to embed the importance of environmental education in government policy. This is good for students as well as for the environment – research has shown that using the environment as a learning context brings added value to students, resulting in improved performance across the curriculum.
