Opportunities

Recruitment, volunteering and training opportunities in the environment and community sectors can be found on various websites (short list available in each sub–section).

We offer our Members and others in the environment sector the option of promoting these opportunities on the NIEL website and through our monthly newsletter, NIEL News.

If you wish to advertise a job opening, volunteering opportunity or training course through NIEL please complete the simple online submission form found here.

Volunteering

Volunteering is a great place to start if you’re looking for a career in the environment sector. You can learn new skills, gain experience in different areas, learn about the different kinds of work available and make some crucial contacts. It can also be a satisfying and productive way to spend a few hours. The normal view of environmental volunteering is tree planting, beach clean ups and other ‘hands on’ activities. While there’s something very immediate and gratifying about planting trees or cleaning ponds, there is a huge range of other ways you can volunteer to help the environment eg: lobbying, admin, etc. If you know who you would like to volunteer for, it is often worthwile contacting them directly. Most environmental organisations, including NIEL and our Members, would jump at the opportunity to get some help, especially as many are working to capacity and would like to be doing more.

Training

Training

Given the current financial climate, competition for job vacancies is hotter than ever. Expanding and enhancing your skill base can give you a competitive edge over other applicants. For others, learning new skills is for nothing more than that feeling of personal achievement and enjoyment, with animal identification and handling courses being prime examples of such courses.
