North–South interconnector route 19 December 2013

The proposed final line route for the new north–south electricity interconnector has been published

The scheme links Turleenan in County Tyrone with Woodland, County Meath.

It will provide a second high–capacity electricity transmission line between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

It is being jointly proposed by Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) and EirGrid in the Republic.

NIE has already submitted an application for planning approval for the Tyrone – Cavan Interconnector, the part of the scheme in Northern Ireland.

EirGrid will now apply for planning approval for the North South 400kV Interconnection Development, the part of the scheme located in the Republic.

The proposed final line route takes account of changes arising from requests made to EirGrid following the publication of a project report in July.
