Farming & Environment Roadshows 25 January 2018

Following DEFRA Secretary of State, Michael Gove’s indication that the current agricultural policy will change with a move towards a policy that delivers strong environmental benefits, NIEL Brexit Coalition Members accepted an invitation from the Ulster Farmers’ Union to take part in a series of meetings with their members across Northern Ireland under the theme ‘Farming and the Environment’.

The format of the meetings, which took place throughout January was a chaired panel discussion followed by questions from the floor. The meetings concluded with a commitment for the farming and environmental sectors to work together to achieve an outcome which keeps our local farmers on the land as well as supporting the industry to deliver a range of public goods including improved air and water standards as well as helping to address biodiversity loss.

For further information on our policy position in relation to the future of farming and the environment please see the briefing from our Brexit Sustainable Land Use Group.
