The Minister said: “It is wonderful to see so many of our young people and their teachers here today celebrating the fantastic work they are doing to help our environment.

“This 20th anniversary event is an excellent showcase for the Eco–Schools programme and I am delighted to have had the privilege of both supporting and taking part in the event.

“I would like to acknowledge the dedication and commitment shown by both staff and pupils throughout the North over the last 20 years of the Eco–Schools programme.

“Young people are excellent ambassadors for our environment. I am delighted that every school in Northern Ireland is now an Eco–school, the first region in the world to achieve this distinction. The challenge now is for every school to become a Green Flag School.”
