Clarendon St Conservation Area 13 December 2013

Environment Minister welcomes funding for Clarendon Street Conservation Area improvements

Environment Minister Mark H Durkan today welcomed funding of £430,000 to complete upgrade works to the public realm in the Clarendon Street Conservation Area in Derry.

Mark H Durkan said: “I welcome this funding to significantly improve this conservation area while retaining its historic streetlights. This compliments the £500,000 investment that my Department made to tackle dereliction in the City last year as well as our ongoing investment in listed buildings.

“Already we have pumped in £1.6million on our built heritage which is transforming 16 key historic buildings with many more in the pipeline. This includes the former Reformed Presbyterian Church in the heart of Clarendon Street. We are also working in the area to secure the future of the former Second Presbyterian Church (The Glasshouse).

“What I and DOE are very much about is ensuring that enhancing and protecting our heritage leads to a better environment and a stronger economy. That is why I very much welcome this announcement today.”
