Belfast Agenda Engagement Events 25 August 2021

This is your chance to influence the priorities of the Belfast Community Planning Partnership and the work that we will collectively focus on

In 2017, Belfast Community Planning Partnership published the Belfast Agenda, the city’s first community plan. It set out a joint vision and outcomes for the future of the city, created following a series of conversations with you.

Four years on, the world is a very different place, so we want to hear from you again.

We want to consider:

  • if the original vision and outcomes people said they wanted are still applicable
  • if priorities that were identified for the next four years should change

The past year has shown what we can achieve when we pull together. As we move forward as a city we want to move forward together, to improve the wellbeing of everyone in the city, both socially and economically, while protecting and improving the environment in which we all live. Together, we can develop a stronger economy which benefits everyone.

Get involved

Over the next 6 months, we want to continue the conversation. There will be three phases to that engagement: review the existing priorities, plan what needs to happen next, and consult on our plans. This workshop is part of the first phase of engagement, and will focus on:

  • revisiting the priorities to deliver the vision, outcomes and ambitions in the Belfast Agenda, seeing what has changed and what has stayed the same, and what we should focus on in the short term
  • checking that our long–term vision and outcomes are still relevant and meaningful.

This will feed into subsequent phases and allow us to co–design action plans and a refreshed Belfast Agenda to ensure we can make a positive impact for us all.

The Belfast Community Planning Partnership has commissioned public participation specialists Involve to develop and independently facilitate these workshops on our behalf.

You can find out more about Involve here.

Let’s continue the Belfast Conversation and help shape Belfast’s future.

Who are these workshops for?

In this first phase of the continuing conversation around the Belfast Agenda, we want to hear from community groups, civil society organisations, and stakeholders across the city to help us review our priorities, and understand what they look like in all areas and for all communities in Belfast.

In planning the workshops, we have used geographic markers of North, South, East, and West, but we recognise that not all communities in our city see themselves in terms of locality, so this framing shouldn’t be restrictive. Some of the conversation will focus on what priorities look like for different parts of the city, as well as for different groups, interests, and identities, but the priorities reflect our ambition for the city as a whole.

Please feel free to attend the workshop that works best for you.

You don’t need to have any specialist knowledge to take part. All we ask is that you come along and participate in the conversation, bringing your own perspective and understanding of the issues. The workshops will be independently facilitated by Involve to make sure that everyone gets to have a say.

A workshop pack will be provided in advance, including useful background information and evidence to help inform the discussion.

There will be five workshops in total – one each for north, south, east, and west Belfast, and one specifically for communities who do not identify with a specific locality within the city.
