The Rural Communities Conference 2021: Working in Partnership to Improve Local Services

Wednesday 17 November 2021

Online

Rural communities face distinctive challenges that have been heightened by the pandemic. Poor technological infrastructure and access to public services have made these communities feel more isolated than before. Residents of rural areas should not be disadvantaged due to their location and it is the duty of local authorities to ensure they have the same access to public services and communication as their urban counterparts. As the pandemic draws to a close, now is an opportune moment for local authorities to reflect on the lessons learnt and discuss ways to improve communication with rural communities to deliver high–quality services that meet their needs.

  • 17% of England’s population lives in rural areas
  • The Government has set out plans to achieve a minimum of 85% gigabit–capable coverage in rural areas by 2025
  • 40% of rural residents live over an hour away from a hospital if travelling by public transport
  • One in five pubs in rural areas went out of business during the pandemic

Join us at The Rural Communities Conference 2021 to hear from high–level keynotes with updates on the latest policy and guidance affecting rural areas. Engage with a series of best practice case studies that will demonstrate how you can communicate and gain a better understanding of the issues rural residents face. Hear practical solutions that you can implement in your local authority and gain the opportunity to network with senior colleagues from a range of settings.
