Social Investment Clinic

Tuesday 20 June 2017

Linen Hall Library, Belfast

social-finance

Are you trying to prepare for social investment? Need to know how? Then why not come along to our Social Investment Clinic and join the discussion from 10am – 12pm on Tuesday 20th June 2017 at Linen Hall Library.

This clinic is open to anyone who wants to find out more about the social investment market and investment readiness. We are bringing together a panel with a wide range of experience – including the people who invest and those that have experience making the pitches.

This workshop will be an ideal opportunity for you to consider what steps you can take to get ready for investment and will also provide an opportunity for you to meet with others working in this area.

Suggested topics that may be covered in the session include:

o   What is Investment Readiness?

o   Understanding the financial landscape for social enterprise

o   The Financial Management required

o   Social Investment Tools and Resources

o   Getting Started: to raise money for a new start–up

o   Keeping Going: to support existing activities

o   Buying Assets: to buy buildings or other equipment

o   Scaling Up: to grow and expand

The format of the morning will open with a panel of representatives from social enterprises that have been successful in social investment. This will be followed by four short pitches (who I am and what we do) from experts in the field. You will then be invited to participate in a speed networking session with each expert hosting small discussion groups at different tables on different themes, with groups rotating every 15–20 minutes.

The Panel will include:

Nicolas McCrickard, County Down Rural Community Network

Alison Gordon, Open House Festival

Jacinta Linden, Space NI

Experts will include:

Nigel McKinney, Building Change Trust

Sandara Kelso Robb, Giving NI

Barry Connolly, UCIT

Charlie Fisher, Development Trust NI

Who should attend?

The session is open to anyone from the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector that is thinking about, or has started their social investment journey. We are looking for organisations that are already investment ready and have a strong business idea identified that would suit social finance – as well as organisations that are just beginning the process to become eligible to apply for social finance.
