Mr Tom Arnold, Chair of the 2030 Agri–Food Strategy Committee will deliver a short address.

This will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr John Gilliland, Director of Agriculture & Sustainability, Devenish, specialist on AgriFood and Sustainable Land Management, Laura Burke, Director Environmental Protection Agency and moderator Kevin O’Sullivan, Environmental Editor for the Irish Times.Tom Arnold Tom Arnold is currently Chair of the 2030 Agri–Food Strategy Committee and is a member of the Global Panel for Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition; the Board of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN); the Malabo Montpellier Panel and the Sight and Life Foundation. He has previously served as Chair, Task Force Rural Africa for the EU Commission; Coordinator of the Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) Movement; Director General of the Institute for International Affairs (IIEA); Chair, Irish Constitutional Convention; Chair, All–Island Civic Dialogue on Brexit; Chief Executive, Concern Worldwide; Assistant Secretary General and Chief Economist, Irish Department of Agriculture and Food; Chair, OECD Committee of Agriculture; Chair, Irish Times Trust and Board member, Irish Times; Board member, Mary Robinson Foundation for Climate Justice; Member, Irish Hunger Task Force.

Laura Burke

Laura Burke is the Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), appointed in 2011 and served as a Director within the EPA since 2004. As Director General she has the responsibility to lead and strategically manage the EPA. Laura is the Chair of the European Environment Agency (EEA) Management Board. Prior to joining the EPA, she worked in the private sector. Laura is a graduate chemical engineer of University College Dublin (UCD), holds an MSc from Trinity College, Dublin, is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland and is a Chartered Director. In 2016 Laura was awarded the UCD Engineering Graduates Association (EGA) Distinguished Graduate Award.

John Gilliland John Gilliland, is Director of Global Agriculture and Sustainability at Devenish, an innovative livestock nutrition company which creates complete solutions, improving animal, human and environmental health, simultaneously.

John Gilliland is an award–winning farmer in Ireland is highly respected and recognised as an excellent leader and communicator across the breadth of the Agri Food and Sustainable Land Management Sectors. For the last six years John has been chairing the N. Ireland Expert Working Group on Sustainable Land Management, and on reducing Ammonia Emissions; and he currently is a member of the EU Commission’s Mission Board Assembly on Soil Health & Food in Brussel

Kevin O’Sullivan

Kevin O’Sullivan is Environment & Science Editor and lead journalist reporting on climate change with The Irish Times. He served as Editor of the paper from 2011 to 2017. He joined The Irish Times in 1997 as Environmental and Food Science Correspondent.

In his current role, he has a particular interest in climate solutions (especially nature–based actions); sustainability (including the pursuit of the UN SDGs), renewable energy and restoring biodiversity.
