Green nudges for promoting sustainability during Covid

Tuesday 24 November 2020 - 24/11/20

Online

Workshop for college staff, academics, and students on ‘Green Nudges’ that can be implemented during the challenges of Covid–19

About this Event

Covid–19 has uprooted many efforts to live more sustainably, from advice against using public transport to vast amounts of PPE waste. So what can we do to decrease colleges’ and departments’ environmental impact while staying safe? With many of our habits disrupted, this is a great time to take a step back and think about how we can support a green recovery.

We are excited to have Dr. Zac Baynham–Herd from the Behavioural Insight Team (BIT) as speaker of our first workshop of the term. BIT recently released The Little Book of Green Nudges, together with the UN Environment Programme and GRID–Ardenal, which lists 40 nudges university campuses can implement to increase their sustainability. This includes interventions like choice architecture, default setting, social influence and increased salience.

In this workshop, Dr. Baynham–Herd will give an introduction to using behavioural science insights for sustainable action and will discuss some easy but effective, Covid–compatible steps college and university staff and students can take to support sustainability. The 20 minute talk will be followed by a Q&A and brainstorming sessions where participants can pool their ideas for their college.
