Background

We now have less than ten years to tackle the climate emergency if we are to stand a good chance of delivering a planet that enables current and future generations to thrive. Public pressure is growing on leading governments and investors to start acting. Business leadership will be critical to drive the transformation required and it is integral that businesses understand climate–related risks and opportunities to deliver benefits for people and nature.

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to build back responsibly and make sure we are on track to deliver a just transition and build resilience to future shocks and accelerate action on climate change. The UK is hosting the postponed COP26 in November 2021 and we have a unique opportunity to demonstrate UK leadership on climate action. With mandatory reporting on climate–related risks and opportunities coming in for many businesses in 2021, there will be a need for businesses to demonstrate commitment and action to meeting international climate goals.
