NBC Outputs
Given the implications for our environment of the EU Referendum, NIEL has undertaken a number of actions at a local, North/ South and UK wide level to highlight the issues that need to be addressed following the decision to leave the EU. Since the vote for a Brexit, the NBC have undertaken a number of actions:
Local
- Brexit briefing to the NI Assembly Committee for Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs, June 2016.
- Participation in the Joint Brexit Consultative Committee co–chaired by the DAERA and Economy Ministers.
- Participation on the DAERA Brexit Environmental Stakeholder Group
UK Level
- Submission to the House of Common’s Environmental Audit Committee Inquiry: The future of the natural environment in light of the EU Referendum (September 2016).
- NIEL Brexit Briefing to the British Irish Parliamentary Assembly (October 2016).
- NIEL presentation to the NI Affairs Committee at Westminster on the implications of Brexit for NI’s environment with specific regard to shared cross–border issues. (March 2017).

North/South
- NIEL representation and submission to the All–Island Civic Dialogue on Brexit. Both plenary and sectoral meetings.
- NIEL & Environmental Pillar presentation to the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement 1 June 2017 entitled: Brexit and Shared Environmental Issues between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with specific regard to cross–border issues.
- All–island conference on Brexit and the environment on the 16th June, sponsored by the European Parliament Office (Dublin) in conjunction with the Environmental Pillar to identify the environmental issues that may result from Brexit and to make sure that the voice of the European Parliament is heard in the negotiations on Brexit, and in particular on these issues.
