Transport Briefing Note

NIEL's new briefing paper now available for download.

Transport is a key issue to be tackled in Northern Ireland if we are to meet our greenhouse gas reduction targets. For example, domestic transport emissions in the UK increased by 9% between 1990 and 2006, whereas those in Northern Ireland increased by a staggering 51% during the same period. We clearly need to change the direction in which we are heading by moving from a reliance on private vehicles to promoting active and public transport. To meet the challenges of the 21st century, Northern Ireland’s transport policy will have to be revolutionised. The briefing note contains a number of key recommendations that we feel will facilitate the transition.

NIEL’s new Transport Briefing Note is now available for download from the NIEL website
