Wildflower Projects, Training Workshop
Thursday 22 March 2012
Cookstown Leisure Centre
EcoSeeds supplies wildflower seeds and plants for use in a range of different planting projects. Wildflower plantings are one way to take actions to benefit biodiversity and can also be great opportunities to involve local schools and community groups, etc. For some case studies see http://www.ecoseeds.co.uk/casestudies.htm
We will be holding a training event this month to explain the process of selecting, preparing, sowing and managing wildflower areas. Topics covered will include the following:
- Site selection – selecting areas that would be most suitable for wildflowers and avoiding problem areas;
- Ground preparation – machinery and methods required to prepare a suitable seed bed;
- Sowing methods – machinery and methods required to maximise germination success;
- Management and maintenance – cutting regimes, weed control and remedial action.
The workshop will be suitable for those directly involved in the practical aspects of establishing and managing such sites.
