Sustainable NI (SNI)

Sustainable Northern Ireland is a limited company registered as a charity established in 1997 to assist district councils, the community and voluntary sector, central government departments and agencies, non departmental public bodies, the business sector and the public in understanding, promoting and encouraging the adoption of sustainable principles in all aspects of our lives.

Mission

To challenge, inspire, support and demonstrate actions that are in the interests of society, the environment and the economy, today and for the future.

Aims

  • To innovate, communicate, demonstrate and inspire sustainable development;
  • To assist organisations to integrate sustainable development principles in their plans, policies and practices; and
  • To support sustainable development by promoting greater public participation in decision making.

Sustainable development is essential to our future and it happens when people work together.

To ensure a more sustainable future it is important for Sustainable Northern Ireland to work with local authorities especially during these times of political change. Review of Public Administration is a pressing issue that is an important vehicle to incorporate sustainable development thinking throughout council policies, strategies, operations and, most importantly, actions.
